Described by those who survived it as a “Saturnalia of blood\,” the struggle came to represent the absolute limit of human endurance and physical savagery. This event explores the harrowing details of a battle so brutal it earned haunting nicknames like “Hell’s Half-Acre” and the “slaughter pen of Spotsylvania. \nABOUT THE SPEAKER: \nChris Mackowski has authored or coauthored nearly two dozen books and serves as a Copie Hill Civil War Fellow at the American Battlefield Trust.
