ABOUT THE EVENT:
Explore the complex legacy of Joseph “Fighting Joe” Wheeler, whose cavalry disrupted Union supply lines and slowed General Sherman’s advance during the 1864 Atlanta Campaign. This talk examines Wheeler’s aggressive tactics and frequent clashes with Union commander Hugh Judson Kilpatrick, shedding light on the discipline challenges his command faced in the field. The presentation highlights the definitive high point of Wheeler’s career: his decisive victory over Union forces during the McCook-Stoneman Raid.
