Join us on September 10, 2026, as featured speaker Dr. James Marten explores the harrowing battlefield journey and complex post-war lives of the famous 6th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. From the bloody chaos of Antietam’s Cornfield and the Unfinished Railroad Cut at Gettysburg to the grueling siege at Petersburg, discover how this Iron Brigade regiment endured the relentless trial of the Civil War. Through personal accounts of individuals like Rufus Dawes and Gottlieb Torke, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how these soldiers navigated the lasting physical, psychological and social aftermath long after the firing stopped.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Dr. James Marten is a Professor Emeritus of History at Marquette University, having authored, edited or co-edited two dozen books over his 36-year teaching career, including Sing Not War and his latest work, The Sixth Wisconsin and the Long Civil War. A recognized authority in the field, he also served as President of the Society of Civil War Historians from 2013 to 2015.
